It’s been a while since I’ve heard a song capture the purest example of a bitter sweet love song. Rising on a wave of huge support from big hitters on the independent music scenes Indie Pop enthusiasts Wild Horse unleash their latest offering ‘Bitter’. A song that lives up to its title in both nature and feeling. Exploring the dynamic of a casual relationship, the band have managed to pack raw emotion along side catchy synth like guitar riffs to create a track that will find a home in the hearts of all those caught up in the tricky situation of a rebound romance.

From the moment this track kicks the band once again highlight their control over their sound and style. Embracing reverb and snappy drums the whole song takes on an almost tide like quality. Think of the song lapping against your ears and every now and again the song reaches just that little bit further into but keeps a constant relaxed nature the whole time. This restraint on the bands part shows that they are allowing the heartbreak and bitterness of the song shine through. This to me, lends a more compassionate quality to the songs theme of longing for more but not having it reciprocated or even ignored.

“….A little bit of feeling is what I need, a little bit of pleasure is all you want….” These two lines that lead into the somewhat upbeat chorus are delivered with such a matter of fact context that you can’t help but envision yourself inside the situation. This is something not many songs can achieve. They can make you remember a similar feeling but not many can fully drag you into the core of the song and paint its picture so vividly. What’ aids this is the simple and easy nature of the musical composition. Rather than load it with rising synths, heavy guitars, booming cvocals, as mentioned above, it goes for the tip toe approach and for me, leaves a longer lasting effect.

Overall, Wild Horse have once again proven their callibur and honestly, I feel have only tapped the surface of what they can achieve as they grow into their music. With tracks like this under their belt and helping them to carve out their own position in the growing Indie Pop scene in the UK. So keep an eye on this Wild Horse.
