Romantic Ballads are an art form only a handful of artists can achieve with sincerity and raw emotion. The majority of attempts wind up as cheesy additions to future Wedding Discos, or as songs young teens listen to on a loop after meeting the partner of their dreams. It is only a handful that can stir feelings, true feelings in those that listen. With their third single, husband and wife duo, Toby & Pip, have produced a song worthy of the label, a real romantic ballad.

Combining the heart of Folk with the spirit of stadium worthy Rock the duo complete the trinity with raw, down to earth lyrics that reach out to anyone in a relationship.  With lyrics like “….Drowning in doubt….Learning to share everything that I own…” and “….All of our days are spent rushing around…” the song reflects on those early days in a relationship where both sides are trying to find a balance without losing something that they clearly have high hopes for. A sentiment amplified by the pre chorus hook “….It’s all new for someone, someone like me….” All tases lyrical elements cement the songs raw and real emotion.

Musically the song immediately projects the passion of its writers. Even as the solo acoustic guitar gently strums out the opening chord progression, you are instantly gripped by the notion that this song will pack a punch. So when the song moves on and the guitar, drums, bass, and piano elements, performed by Phil Ward, Anthony Strong, and Joel Stumbaugh, slot neatly into the mix, it fulfils the promise and climaxes in a stadium worthy power break. Also with the combination of Toby’s voice and Pip’s contrasting voice the harmonies blend effortlessly to float along the songs musical bedrock. Two people in perfect balance.

Overall the song is a strong release from the duo and debuts their passion and love for songwriting openly. Though the song is strong on its own, evident via an acoustic performance on their You Tube Channel, it is made even better through the production and arrangement of friend and Pro Jazz musician, Anthony Strong. Together they have moulded a contemporary ballad that can speak to the heart of a real, down to earth romance.
