fter the recent release of debut EP ‘Le Couq’ West Midlands’ alternative troubadours The Pagans S.O.H have dropped another hand grenade of a release in the form of ‘Emergence of Forgotten power’. Brimming with the bands signature mash up of Metal Hip-Hop, Garage Funk, and Pagan Soul this second EP proves once again that this is a band that aren’t afraid to push the envelope but ask the question, ‘Are you ready to follow us?’. Personally, I’m clutching a one way ticket and just trying not to be thrown off the ride.

Over 4 stand out tracks, each one of them brimming with the bands personality and attitude, this EP calls for you to kick back and absorb its message. From the opening shimmer of Emergence of Forgotten Power to the echoing closer Black Jesus, The pagans S.O.H bend music in ways few dare to think about, let alone commit to recordings. Though this may sound like each track is like a solo channel on a desk, they definitely aren’t. While, as the tracks do carry their own unique quirks, like Banjo’s on Come Down to Reality or the more dub step beats of Pause, they each have the beating heart of the bands funk rock roots at its core.

Another piece of Magic that makes these songs such an experience to listen to, is the hurricane of fire in human form, lead vocalist, Marcus. Musically the tracks whip up a rich soundscape that pulls you in but it’s then Marcus’s lyrical assaults that clench the songs fist and drives it into your jaw. Each lyric though volleyed in rapid fashion, carries a wealth of philosophical musings and unapologetic honesty. Its almost as though he carves the lyrics from the soundscape around him rather than placing them into the mix separately. The marriage of all these extremely talented musicians on the final product is the is the icing on this multi layered offering.

Overall, The Pagans S.O.H have once again produced a body of work that they and their fans can be proud of. It continues to uphold the bands mission statement to break the chains many musicians feel they are beholden to and scorch their own path towards success with no compromise. If you love bands like Rage Against The Machine, Hollywood Undead, and just anyone else with the balls to bare their teeth at the industry, then this is a band for you.
