Leif Coffield

Hypnotic and dark are the two main elements that bleed from the latest single, Say My Name curtesy of Scottish songwriter/Producer Leif Coffield. Blending a smooth yet ominous electro landscape with his own unique quirks, Leif forges a single that captures your mind, only releasing it as the song fades into silence. This landscape of sound tackles the sentiments of jealousy and possession of another persons attention and is delivered in a subtle way that still packs an overwhelming punch.

Building the track one layer at a time the song fades in an immediately grabs you with its forward momentum. Leif’s vocals are gently delivered but land precisely amongst the electro goroove. Adding his own unique flavour, a trademark of Leif’s production, a synthesised voice acts as a bridge between each line, bringing emphasis to Leif’s delivery of his own lines. The beat plays a prominent roll in the track and brings a heart beat that pulses throughout the track. As the song hits the chorus a keyboard kicks in, elevating the track out of its dark electro roots and gives a glimpse of shrouded brightness without steering from its core sound.

Lyrically the song weaves its own views on the feelings of jealousy and resentment that can be felt by someone in a relationship dealing with these feelings and also the view point of someone being the subject of those feelings. One line in particular stands out, for its imagery and subtle link to the emotion of jealousy. “…Does your blood run green when you think of me….” This line is so explicit in its depiction of how deep the feelings of jealousy can run and is yet poetic in its delivery within the song. Each verse and chorus brilliantly paints a vivd picture of the sentiments held in the songs creation.

Overall, once again Leif delivers a well produced electro inspired track that can stand confidently alongside his previous releases and shows great promise for Leif’s ability to create meaningful and evocative tracks with as minimal instrumentation as possible. Plus his continued efforts to make each track unique makes the anticipation for what comes next to grow even more.
