Jim Hudson
You could say that someones social media presence is a brief window into the life of that person. However, in this growing technological age their are many ways of following people, interacting with people, and most of all, influencing people. From a harmless hashtag campaign about growing moustaches to sharing hateful and false information to a wide audience this window has opened wider and wider over time.
So when Wolverhampton based Singer//Songwriter Jim Hudson sat down to write his next song he felt complelled to put across his view on this growing age of so called ‘Big Brother Society’. The end result being In Windows his latest single released on 27th March this year. Like his previous singles it follows in the footsteps of great 90’s Indie bands such as Oasis and Radiohead. Even the vocals are reminiscent of the lattes vocalist, Thom Yorke.
As the song opens it begins with an almost upbeat chord pattern, picked on an acoustic guitar but then to add an element of ominous intent a synth slowly builds to swallow the guitar and lead the way for a steady and powerful drum beat that carries the weight of the song from start to finish.
With its opening line ‘Pushed into place…’ Jim makes no efforts to hide his own feelings on his subject matter. As the lyrics move forwards you really get a sense of how Jim Hudson feels about the world around him. Evident in his lyrics ‘They know who you are…’ and ‘…control your choices…’. The chorus carries an image of having your privacy slowly dismantled and feeling powerless as it slips through your fingers. Again a powerful message in todays online society.
In a call back to his influences, Jim adds a brilliantly simple lead break that echoes early Noel Gallagher in its way of being fitting without being flashy. All these elements combine to create a brilliant indie track made better by the fact that each element is performed and produced by Jim Hudson himself. This is again proof of the vast, untapped talent that now have a chance to shine because of the advancement in home recording equipment.
Overall this track is definitely one to look out for and will leave you wanting more from this great artist. Heres hoping Jim Hudson will give us a window into his future album plans very soon.
