Let me paint you a picture. Imagine a sunset over an expanse of green fields. Allow your eyes to be pulled across the open ground and rest upon a quiet country road nestled between over hanging trees. Then on that road appears a lone convertible, not speeding, but casually following the bends and rises of the road. In the car the occupants are enjoying the cool summer air and holding hands on the gear stick, shifting through the numbers together. As they take a bend the sun catches the windscreen with a flash and the moment is captured. Well, that is the scene created in my mind when I first heard this new single from Kents own Charles HS.

Now I know that opening may have been a tad dramatic but I’ll stand by it all day long. As the sun comes out the radios and playlists become filled with ‘Summer Bangers’. Throbbing, dance fuelled tracks that capture the party atmosphere of summertime in the UK. For me though, its all about the more chilled side of summer music. Those tracks that carry a steady groove and promote an upbeat but relaxed atmosphere, ‘Dandelion’ is one of them. Carried by the now familiar fluid like guitar sound that is slowly becoming a staple for Charles’s releases, the song already lulls you into wanting to kick back and sip on something icey.

Much like his previous releases it carries a nice lo-fi, indie pop vibe that allows the track to build nicely and create a solid soundscape from start to finish. While previous release ‘Stereotype’ was carried by its lyrics and a loan guitar, ‘Dandelion’ builds slowly, adding in one extra instrument at a time. Whats great about this is that it allows the song to build naturally and feel raw and purposeful. This then allows the uplifting and almost joyous vocals to really find a place within the music and add to its overall feeling of optimism.

Overall Charles HS has once again proven that he is a songwriter who pours his heart and soul into his music. Throughout the entire process, done from his bedroom, Charles takes care to be sure that his intentions for the song and his emotions when writing them are front and centre in the final product. With each track he pushes himself a bit more and I feel hasn’t even scratched the surface of what he can produce. Don’t take my word for it though.
