A belief in a higher power is something that is woven into the very essence of society. Whether its belief in an almighty God, a belief that stars guide your future, or simply that fate and luck play a huge role in your decision making, a strong belief in an invisible and guiding force is something we’ve all heard about. So when penning their latest single Birmingham duo Beorma leant into the theme of this belief and pondered what it would be like to live your life in the complete certainty that someone or something else will make everything go your way….the end result being a beautifully bright and hypnotic single.

Millenial Jesus is one of those rare songs that you feel as though you are swimming through the soundscape rushing around you. The steady rhythm from the drums and bass create a stable framework on which smooth and subtle synths pour over them like a waterfall of sound. Each note is executed neatly and pulls you deeper into the songs tone and energy. Even as the song progresses and an electric guitar swoops in to pick up a melody line, it almost tip toes into existence. ‘Don’t mind me, I’m just going to add this here, no don’t get up, its fine’. By introducing the guitar in this manner you almost get the feeling that it had been there the whole time. Plus it gives the added bonus of elevating the chorus of the song higher, as though breaking the surface of a slow moving river.

Vocally and lyrically Ferns delivers, once again an effortless performance. The Duo utilises a bright yet fluid like melody that simply coasts across the musical composition underneath. This whole package creates an immersive atmosphere and allows you to fully embrace the songs theme of strong belief and self confidence. Though the song was based on a belief in an invisible force, I think you can also take from it that as long as you have confidence in what you do and always try to do what you want, you might be just that little bit happier….at least that’s why I feel.

Overall and once again, Beorma have proven themselves a duo that have truly found a groove and compliment each other so well. With each release they dip their toes a little further into the pool of what Alt-Pop and electro R&B has to offer while blending it with a nice Indie pop undertone that really makes their music stand out on its own. So give it a listen and embers yourself into Beorma’s world.
