Your Name
ARTIO
An etherial bodyslam of emotions, packaged in a raw explosion of sound are two phrases that merely scratch the surface when describing the latest offering from Alternative Pop outfit ARTIO. This young band from Leeds have never shied away from their subject matter and have always strived to leave nothing behind when recording their songs. Yet, with each new release they manage to increase the intensity and energy of each song. ‘Your Name’ is yet again an example of the band mining even deeper into the heart of ARTIO.
While previous tracks ‘Billionaires Nightmare’ and ‘Queen Cobra’ packed a punch akin to bands like Pendulum and PVRS, big swells, driving bass lines, and punchy drums, ‘Your Name’ feels a bit darker. While keeping the elements that make ARTIO, ARTIO, with this latest release they have seemingly embraced that etherial darkness of bands such as Within Temptation and Evanescence. By embracing this more etherial sound the band have once again elevated their own music to a whole new level.
From the moment the song kicks in with the use of strings and layered, atmospheric harmonies, the song immediately grabs your attention, seemingly emulating the calm before a storm because shortly after this intro the band kick in with an explosive snap. The way in which this drop is executed allows the song to keep up its intensity even at times when it seems that the sound has dropped back down, that feeling, the anticipation of the next explosion is there, an undercurrent to the track as a whole.
This intensity of sound and sudden burst of energy throughout as the chorus kicks in each time, contrasts beautifully with the overall theme of the song. Inspired by her own view as a bisexual, lead vocalist Hol Brazill pulls on her experiences in moments of falling for someone before you even learn their name. Whether its through her lyrics or the music, Hol and ARTIO have fully embodied the intensity of that initial spark. The desire, the desperation, the overwhelming need to simply know someones name. All these emotions have been bottled and channeled into each note and have created something that could leave you breathless.
Overall, once again ARTIO have proven that they are no where near the ceiling of what they can achieve when given the freedom to be themselves. With two EPs and several successful stand alone singles already behind them, there seems to be no limiter on this young and eager band from Leeds, and its my hope that they never will.
