Raw, emotive, and atmospheric are just a few words that could describe this latest single from the brilliant West Midlands artist, Bryony Williams. Coming on the heels of her previous singles ‘Knockin’ and ‘I Can Be’, this track changes gears and showcases a more exposed side to Bryony’s songwriting. Unlike her previous tracks that were driven by a sense of indie pop, ‘Dive’ strips this coating away and instead creates something new but wholly herself.

While her previous releases were heavily focused on a guitar driven structure, this latest track takes its focus from a lone piano, and around it builds a simple but effective, fluid like atmosphere using echo effects and a single strum guitar pattern. Then vocally, Bryony performs a gentle, and passionate melody, that couples with the atmospheric music brilliantly. Each line is delivered with certainty and confidence and leaves nothing behind as it is sang.

The song itself fully embodies and reflects its message of opening up fully to someone, leaving nothing left unsaid. However with this message comes a tinge of sadness in the way that you gain a sense of rejection on the narrators part after opening up. This is evident through its hook/chorus line of ‘….By the way that you treat me, I thought that you could see me….’. Almost saying, ‘I thought you were prepared for everything that I am, and not just what was on the surface’. Again this contrasts with her previous singles that carried a more positive and uplifting message.

Overall ‘Dive’ is once again another brilliant release from an up and coming artist who keeps going from strength to strength. With her latest EP release around the corner, this final taste of what’s to come proves that though you thought you knew what kind of artist Bryony is, she still has so much more to explore and showcase to the world.
