Neptune Rain

As they continue to cement themselves as a rising star in the Rock Metal scene Neptune Rain hit the ground running in 2021 with their brand new track, We Breathe the Same. After dropping several successful singles last year they rounded off their debut with their EP release in November 2020. Building off the momentum of their hard work in pushing out their music despite the limitations of lockdowns the band have pulled no punches with their latest single and continue to prove that they aren’t a band to be taken lightly.

We Breathe the Same carries the bands familiar blend of hard rock with a driving attitude. From the moment the band kick into the main instrumental hook the song almost grabs you by the shirt front and keeps you locked in place as it delivers its message. The message, as you could guess from the title is one of unification. ‘We all breathe the same air, how can we not find a way of living together?’ However, unlike a lot of songs that try to deliver this message are usually centred around sentimentality and subtly, Neptune Rain remove the gloves and draw on the frustration and helplessness that has been born of the last 12 months.

Coupling this feeling with the explosive nature of the guitars and rhythm section the song is not easily ignored. From its first verse the band make it clear that the muzzle is off, “….We’ll be remembered for the trail of death….” This line while being hard hitting also makes reference to the way we look back over history. Most major events are measured by casualties and loss and this recent Pandemic will be no different. This questioning of how we will be remembered in history is one of the elements that give this song a more upfront atmosphere. The song also doesn’t shy way from questioning the social up raw that has accompanied the pandemic. “….I’m smart ordinarily, but even now there are signs I’m fading away from reality….” This line is highly relatable as there has been a huge rise in mistrust and a rise in belief in conspiracy as though its fact, leaving many people questioning what to believe anymore and feeling lost.

Despite pointing out the stark truth of our current situation and the rise in polarisation through the guise of situation management, a sentiment captured through the line “….All the promises made to exploit the insanity….” Neptune Rain use the chorus as a rallying cry for those who listen. “….Sick of repeating history, where everyone is our enemy, lets take our head from the sand….” These lines are stark and honest. As though the band are screaming at the top of their lungs ‘Enough is enough, why do we continue the same cycle when there are other roads we can choose’. Again the song promotes an urge to open your eyes and seek an new path but through its delivery and musical backing the message is given a new dynamic. Almost saying ‘Unity will only come if we all break the cycle of history and demand a change’.

Overall Neptune Rain have once again showcased their passion and drive to create music that will reach people and at the same time urge those listeners to take posotive steps towards a brighter future. Its not enough to recognise that history is repeating itself, we have to stand up and call ourselves out on it if we are going to change because after all we all bleed, breathe, and breed the same.
