Lyon Tide

After the success of their debut single Closure back in early January this year, Birmingham based electro/indie band Lyon Tide return with their reflective follow up single Blind. This latest track sees the band tackle the very familiar and relatable subject of regret. We’ve all had that pang, that realisation that maybe we could have, or maybe we should have done something or said something in the moment. Yet instead we let the moment pass.

Combining their big electro feel with a contemporary indie twist the band produce a soundscape akin to Snow Patrol meets David Bowie after catching a lift with the Eurhythmics. Mixing together  a wide spread synth effect and a dancing single note keyboard riff the song slowly swells as the track moves forwards. Getting deeper into the track the band subtly alter the synths here and there to create patches of light and shade, fully utilising and showcasing the bands talent for crafting the body of a song and helping it to allow its messaging to shine through unhindered.

Lyrically the song is straight forward and pulls on common love song tropes to highlight the ‘should have’ aspect of the song “….I should have swam through water and snow…” a play on the trope of the singer promising to swim an ocean or cross any river to prove their love. Here the singer highlights that maybe he should have done this but realised to late what it would have proven to the other person. Using the metaphor of being blind to these things both paints the listener a vivid picture of the dismay that narrator has but also is a clear way of portraying the guilt and regret that is held by them as well. The song also holds an almost hopeful element that maybe now the realisation is there the narrator could find a way to rectify their mistake.

Overall as follow up singles go this track is a confident second single and once again showcases the bands unique sound and style that at this early stage in their recording career has the potential to evolve into something brilliant. Don’t take our word for it though. Hit the link below and get an exclusive listen before its release tomorrow.
