I Never
The New Twentys
Sometimes a relationship that seemed promising can begin to fall apart and no matter how much effort, or hard work is put into it, it just can’t be salvaged. Though this thought can seem quite disheartening, The New Twentys have applied their own Indie Pop flare to airing a point of view on this sentiment. I Never is an anthem for anyone who has felt stuck in a one sided relationship and is a message that it is okay to walk away if you have given it your all and it still hasn’t worked out.
The song captures the heart of The New Twentys with what is quickly becoming their signature sound of upbeat, groove driven Indie with a Pop flare. Think Happy Mondays meets Primal Scream, topped off with a Bowie-esque vocal delivery. From its opening the song kicks off with a smooth fluid riff on the guitar that is built on with a strong rhythm and an acoustic guitar that acts as a special layer that fills out the body of the song. Over the top of all this a gentle synth adds an element of atmosphere, completing the tracks sound.
Each instrument is played with a relaxed confidence that speaks to the songs message of being confident in ones decision and following it through no matter what. This relaxed confidence is mirrored in the easy delivery of the vocal line that carries each word, driving it home with the perfect balance of intensity and sincerity. All these elements blend togather to create a track that uplifts and makes you want to move while at the same time lays out a bitter sweet message of love lost.
Overall the track is a shinning example of what The New Twentys are capable of and what we can expect from them moving deeper into 2021. It’s also another example of the evolution in contemporary music and how the genre lines that have long since pigeon hold musicians everywhere are slowly blurring and melding into new and interesting styles and sounds. Defiantly a track that wouldn’t be out of place on any Indie Party playlist.
