One think I find more fun than discovering new tracks to listen to, is discovering the inspiration behind them. I’ve heard stories that have touched my heart, had me chuckling at the thought process, and heard stories that have challenged my own imagination. Well, upon hearing this latest offering from rising Oxford three piece Pearl Diver, I can honestly say that the inspiration behind this one makes my top five. Through a haze of mushrooms, trees, and a deep connection with mother nature, ‘Heaven Help me’ is a psychedelic adventure. Think Pink Floyd meets early Incubus.

In its opening few seconds the band implement a swirling, lone guitar that seems to bacon your ears into engaging with what comes next. You can alsmot feel it being alive and giving yo ua nudge.Once it has your attention to song kicks into gear with an almost up tempo jazz undertone excited by a raw and snappy drum pattern. Adding to this feel is a snappy guitar line and the addition of an acoustic rhythm beneath it all that seems to carry the song on a moving wave of tune. As you listen the bass constantly flows in and around the music, flaring up now and then and bringing a real vibrant element to the track.

This up tempo and fast turn around continues all the way through and is punctuated by a brilliantly executed and blues inspired guitar solo. Its tightly knot and crisply distorted which allows it to breath freely against its sonic backdrop. For me all these elements really lend themselves to the lyrical and thematic content of the track. Born from a psychedelic trip in a forest where lead vocalist and guitarist Matt Sage went through a pure connection with the environment around him, the song really allows the psychedelic elements run wild while using the snatches of guitar to keep it grounded in reality.

Overall ‘Heaven Help Me’ is another perfectly considered offering from Pearl Diver who truly do their best to be as honest and creative as possible when forming their ideas into the finished product. It is also a great gateway into experiencing their new EP ‘Looking for the Light‘ which is a tasty little treat as well. Listening to this band always gets me excited for what they will do next and hopefully, will do the same for you.
