Over the last year there has been a huge serge in the music scene of that nostalgic feeling from 00’s. Everyone from the unsigned to the mainstream are embracing the optimistic and energetic elements that captivated me in my early days discovering music (showing my age there). So when Irish singer/songwriter and Alt-Pop artist Erin Astra dropped her latest tack I once again got to experience a touch of that nostalgia with her own little twist.

Back in 2021 Erin came to my attention after dropping her debut single ‘Never Going Back’. It was a statement of a first single full off sharp pop elements and neat groove that tittered on the edge of alternative. ‘Till I Die’ sees Erin take a full dive into alternative pop while still retaining everything that made her debut so great. Combining a bouncy pop melody with a crunchy guitar backing the track oozes with confidence and unrestricted passion. Again Erin’s vocal delivery throughout the track is effortless and measured, resulting in a memorable performance that will swim through your head long after the track has needed.

It is both punchy, gritty, and delicate all at the same time. With its main focus being on the feeling of meeting someone who can see through all your self proclaimed faults and accept you for who you are. The tracks begins with a I don’t care attitude expressed in the vocal delivery being quite sharp and to the point but then as the catchy hook of the chorus kicks in the vocal becomes a tad more delicate and flows more. This change creates an almost visual change as you envision the music in your head. At the same time it neatly mirrors the music and the overall theme of the song in a way that speaks to Erin as an artist in her decision making when creating the song.

Overall Erin Astrahas once again proven that she can create a catchy ear worm of a song and also truly knows what she wants to say within her lyrics and her sound. Whether its confidence or vulnerability she can manipulate her music to fully embody her original idea and create songs that some seasoned musicians would envy. Erin has a mountain of opportunity within her and I feel that we’ve only reached the base camp of what she can create with her music.
